Wave Of The Future

I love the DeVos Place convention center. This sort of forward thinking architecture makes me proud to live in Grand Rapids. The designers and structural engineer worked to blend the facility with its downtown surroundings and the Grand River. The waved roof and rolling structure over the Grand Gallery create a five-sided building that offers interest from all viewpoints and angles. “The design was inspired by the energy of the river’s rapids which corresponds to the energy of the community,” says Phillip Lundwall, FAIA, senior vice president and director of design, Progressive AE.
I believe Mr. Lundwall actually meant to say, “future rapids,” but I agree, this community does have energy.
