Rapids in the Grand Next?

They are installing rapids right now in Chesaning, MI on the Shiawassee River. “This project is sort of like a template for the entire state, maybe even the entire country. It’s the largest one we’ve got in the state of Michigan,” Kahn said.
“I’m very proud of it. It’s one of the best thing that’s happened to Chesaning in a long time. I think it’s going to be great for the future,” Mayor Joe Sedlar said. Not only do the rapids look nice, but the fish are going to love it. Biologists say fish in the Shiawassee River will be healthier and more plentiful because of the rapids. The system is 200 feet wide and 500 feet long and has attracted interest from communities such as Corunna and Frankenmuth.

It’s great to see other communities restoring their rivers, but when we put the rapids back in the Grand, let’s be sure it looks natural, not tiered and striped like Chesaning.

I applaud Chesaning for getting this done. It’s a great improvement. But I think Grand Rapids can do better – WAY better!
