Richard Bishop, President and CEO
Richard Bishop serves as the President and CEO of GRWW as of August 2017. From 1999 to 2005, Richard was Deputy City Manager in Columbus, GA where he oversaw day to day operations, was a project coordinator for City construction projects, and was the leader in the successful campaign for a 250 million dollar sales tax referendum. Between 2005 and 2017, he was the President of Uptown Columbus Inc. /Business Improvement District/Uptown White Water Management LLC. There, he established Uptown as the First Urban MainStreet City in Georgia and conceptualized and managed the development of 2.5 mile/$26,000,000 Urban White Water Course. He holds a Masters in Public Administration from Columbus State University, Columbus, GA.
Matt Chapman, Director and Project Coordinator
Matt Chapman serves as the Project Manager for GRWW. Matt came to Grand Rapids Whitewater in September of 2015 after serving as the Executive Director of Alternatives in Motion for four years. Matt has over 12 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and is knowledgeable in marketing, special events management, grant writing & management, the donor development process, and organizational development. Matt holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Advertising and Public Relations and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Administration from Grand Valley State University.
Chip Richards, Co-Founder of GRWW
Charles (Chip) Richards is a retired commercial photographer and currently a stay at home dad. After college, he pursued his love of water and the outdoors as a professional fly fishing guide in Michigan and Alaska. Chip is an active volunteer for the National Ski Patrol and West Michigan Mountain Biking Association.
Chris Muller, Co-Founder of GRWW and President of M Retail Solutions
Chris Muller is the founder and President of M Retail Solutions. With more than 18 years of retail real estate experience, he has represented prestigious and notable retailers and landlord’s on a national, regional, and local level. Chris is active in the International Council of Shopping Centers, serves on the board for an elite level road and mountain bike racing team, and developed the highest rated LEED building in the World.
Janet Korn, Senior Vice President, Experience Grand Rapids
Janet has 21 years of experience working with Experience Grand Rapids. During that time she has performed a variety of duties ranging from membership development, publication specialist, and community relations and currently is Senior Vice President, leading Marketing team. Janet’s current role involves brand management, communications, advertising and market positioning. Additionally, Janet is a fan of craft beer and is a mug club member at several Grand Rapids locations.
Steve R. Heacock, Senior Vice President, Public Affairs/Research, Spectrum Health System, and President, Spectrum Health Innovations, L.L.C.
Steve Heacock is a proven corporate and community leader with extensive background in executive management, legal and accounting practice, and community and governmental relations. Steve’s focus is to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholder groups. At Spectrum Health, Steve provides executive leadership for system marketing and communications, public relations, community relations, governmental affairs and research. He also is the Chief Innovation Officer for Spectrum Health and serves as president of Spectrum Health Innovations, L.L.C..
John Green, Executive Chairman, Partner Founders Brewing Company
With over 20 years of experience in finance, commercial real estate and urban development, John Green has long been inspired by Grand Rapids, Michigan, the city he grew up in. In March of 1013, John was named President of Founders Brewing Company. As an integral part of the Founders leadership team, John works closely to maintain the original Founders vision of passionate beer drinkers committed to product excellence while helping to manage the growth of the brand across the country—and around the world. John lives in Grand Rapids with his wife Deanna and three children; the family takes full advantage of Michigan’s great outdoors and also loves to travel the globe.
Jeff VandenBerg, Former Business Owner
Jeff VanderBerg has resided in Grand Rapids his whole life. He formally owned Forest Hills Food grocery store in Grand Rapids Township. He also was formally a board member of the South East YMCA, Artist Creating Together, and Land Conservancy of West Michigan. Additionally, he was formally apart of the Ada Township Non Motorized Trails Committee and currently is on their Parks and Land Preservation Committee.
