Similar to the current 6th Street Dam the AHS will likely stack up fish and a lot of fishing recreation is anticipated downstream of it. Because of its flexibility, it is expected to increase fish passage as well. The AHS also helps control the water surface along riverside park during low flows. This can slow the velocities and increase the depth of the channel to the benefit of rowing and provide increased and safer recreational opportunities. Because the AHS is a large structure in the river it is designed to provide sediment passage, fish passage, boat passage and flood control.
