Recognizing the important social, recreational and economic benefits provided by rowing clubs on the Grand River, GRWW has spent considerable time studying the river bottom and the hydraulic features of the river in the Riverside Park area. Another incidental benefit of the AHS is the opportunity to improve the rowing pool upstream.
At the direction of the AHS Governance committee, the AHS could be operated to raise water levels upstream and ensure adequate water depths during low-flow seasons when flood control and sea lamprey protection are not the primary objectives of the AHS. This adjustability could allow national competition events can be confidently scheduled. These events have a significant economic impact on our region and are an important part of the river revitalization effort.
